Q: What’s your surfing history?
A: I started surfing in Oregon after a friend claimed there were waves and surfers in Oregon. He was right. I surfed as much as possible, even though I was a graduating college student trying to study for medical school entrance exams. I didn’t get into med school...but I did get to move to the beach full time.
Eventually, I got bored with the really cold Oregon water and wanted something different. I moved to Santa Cruz in 2000 to surf and figure out what to do next! I surf as much as possible on what ever I can put under my feet. I am soooo happy, Med. School didn’t want me.
Q: What’s your favorite board?
A: I love anything I can surf...I can always find something interesting in a shape. If I had to pick one board...it wouldn’t be the board but the shaper...that would be Bob Miller.
Q: Favorite way to surf?
A: Upright
Q: Why are you with Bluecoil?
A: Bluecoil is a different kind of company. We are a small, artisan company that makes surfboards for the everyday surfer to surf better. No hype, just forward thinking designs and, did I mention, Bob Miller?
Q: What’s your surfing history?
A: I rode my first wave in 1979. Moon Doggie was a personal hero as a kid. I grew up surfing the cold, fish infested, wild waters north of San Francisco. I am President and co-founder of the Cold Water Surf Club. I now live in Santa Cruz. I am a bit of a surfboard collector. I really love the boards from the late 60’s, must be a Moon Doggie thing. I have ridden all most every design out there. I believe that there is something to learn from every era of surfboard design. As a surfer I consider myself a Traditionalist.
Q: What’s your favorite board?
A: I have 25 boards and I ride them all, but the board I grab the most and enjoy surfing in all conditions is my Cobalt All-rounder 9’2" rounded pin. The board is always fun.
Q: Favorite way to surf?
A: Always with a smile. If you’re not smiling, find a different way of life.
Q: Why are you with Bluecoil?
A: 10 years ago Bob Miller became an instant friend and my shaper of choice. He will shape exactly what you ask for. You will be hard pressed to find that anywhere. He is the house Shaper for Bluecoil surfboards. Bob Miller alone is enough, but the way the Bluecoil boards are made make them different from everything out there. The bottom line is that Bluecoil surfboards work. Once you ride one you will know.
